2000 – 2010

Installation of small paintings at the Transit2010 exhibition.

I went back to art-school in the 2000s, this time at a university (SCU, Lismore). My work during this time became somewhat more concept-driven and theoretical. I became interested in exploring ideas around self-identity in relation to the various forms of online social-networking, and the socio-cultural impacts of the internet during the 2000s.

I also began exhibiting again, mostly group exhibitions, at various venues around Lismore and Northern NSW. This included the SCU student graduate exhibition X-it 04 in 2004.

Some works from 2004 – 2009 (including works from X-it 04)

This time kinda culminated in 2010, with two exhibitions during my BVA Honours years:

  • MyFace: Anti-Portraiture By Default was a solo show in February 2010, which showcased works from 2009.
  • TRANSIT 2010 was SCU’s hons. graduate show in November 2010. Works shown here included some updated versions from 2009, and newer works. The show also featured some multi-media components: a video projection of a live-feed of user-generated images from the internet, and what I call a Bonebot – a wallaby skull that was reanimated with electronic circuitry which crawled the web of social media in a more symbolic way.
